Do I need the RAD Audio Delay Board?

The RAD will provide 2 added features

  • It will eliminate the squelch crash as the repeater receiver's squelch closes, after the user unkeys.
  • It will eliminate the 60 ms "blip" of DTMF as the decoder in the controller "picks up".

Whether or not you need the RAD is really dependant on personal tastes. Some repeater operators couldn't live without the functionality it provides whereas other operators don't really care.

Why do you offer the RAD in 3 different versions?

The RAD is available in 1, 2 or 3 Port versions depending on your needs. Obviously if you're only using 1 Port for a repeater, you don't need an RAD on the other Ports. Then again, planning for the future is a valid consideration.

Will the RAD help with users who start to talk immediately after keying up their radio?

It may. It depends in various factors, such as how much delay you have set your RAD for, the response time of your receiver and the amount of time for your CTCSS decoder to respond (if using CTCSS on your system)
